Otto Schumann

Otto Schumann (11 September 1886 – 1952) was a German general, who held the rank of SS-Gruppenführer during World War II.
== Biography ==
Otto Schumann was born in Metz, Lorraine, on 11 September 1886.〔Otto Schumann on (lebensgeschichten.net )〕 During the First World War, he served in the German Army as an officer.〔 He was awarded the Iron Cross Ist class.〔Otto Schumann on (SS-Gruppenführer and Generalleutnant der Polizei )〕 After the war, he served as ''Kreisrat'', a county counselor, in East Prussia. Then, he became police officer. Otto Schumann joined the NSDAP in 1933〔NSDAP-Nr.: 1 753 690〕 and the SS in 1939〔SS-Nr.: 327 367〕 with the rank of ''SS-Standartenführer und Oberst der Polizei''.〔
When World War II broke out, Schumann served in Stettin (Wehrkreis II), as ''Standartenführer''. On May 1940, he was transferred to The Hague in the Netherlands and promoted ''SS-Oberführer''.〔 On 30 January 1941, Otto Schumann was promoted ''SS-Brigadeführer und Generalmajor der Polizei''. From December 1942 to September 1943, Otto Schumann served in Münster (Wehrkreis VI).〔 On August 1943, Otto Schumann was promoted to the rank of SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei. On February 1944, Schumann was sent to Vienna, where he stayed until October 1944. Then, he took command of the of ''SS-Oberabschnitt West'', in Düsseldorf.〔
Otto Schumann died in Detmold, North Rhine-Westphalia, in 1952.〔
